Keeping The Spark Alive

Thank you for visiting HoMade Studio. Launched in 2017 as a way to channel my creative energy while raising two precocious toddlers, HoMade Studio has evolved from finding wonderful designs to put on gifts to designing many of my own pieces. While I still remain loyal to the artists whose work I use, I am actively learning more and more about design so you are getting a truly unique item. But...how did I end up here? Well, this was not the life I had envisioned for myself. After acquiring two bachelor's degrees and working in advertising for a bit, I decided to become a teacher. Oh man, did I love teaching. Then my husband and I decided it was time to start a family. Soon, we found out we were expecting a baby boy. Life was good. Everything was happening the way I wanted it to. Then, six weeks before my due date we learned that there was an issue with our perfect baby boy. Two weeks later, I had to have an emergency c-section. Nine days after that I held my darling boy in my arms as he took his last breaths. I was broken. I no longer had direction. I was lost. But that was not the end of my journey. Two years later, and many months of trying, we welcomed a beautiful, this-time-healthy baby boy, Gavin. My hope was restored, as was my joy. It was only after losing my first and finally being able to take home my second that I realized what I needed most was to be present in my children's lives. Being a teacher with one young child provided a lot of time for spending with my family. But when we added my daughter to the mix I felt the need to be home with them for as long as I could. So, I left teaching and took on full-time stay-at-home-mommyhood. However, not long after making the change, I realized another need. A need to be creative. I’d always loved to write, to photograph, to create. But with two young children at home, I didn’t have the opportunity like I did when I was out in the workforce. So, I began dabbling here and there. Making frames, up cycling unwanted items. Then I began designing…and found something that is as equally exciting as teaching. I just love creating new things and making people happy when they purchase something from my shop. And on top of that, this new career path is one that allows me to be available to my family whenever they need me. Best of both worlds!
